| The Mules are in the house and they want to date your sister -- on at least two and possibly three of the six tracks that comprise their debut ep Grab Your Musket.
I don't know why they call themselves the Mules. There isn't a picture of a mule on the cover. It looks more like a marsupial. Are they stubborn? They are funny. This is the funniest punk rock klezmer band you will ever hear.
It opens with a straight-ahead punk song about Polly-O (and her very pretty younger sister). A few steps further down the plank, we get Misprint, where the Mules show off their Talking Heads chops (considerable). The klezmer kicks in on Rhino, an absolutely brilliant rollicking ode to a girl, I think. Problems With Exits is epic with a great punch line. And Ham Shank is everything you already love about The Mules for a more than thrilling finish.
The Mules do their thing at just about breakneck speed, giving you the feeling that you're on a runaway bus that never quite loses control. You never know where you're going to end up, and the scenery, which is very cool, is going by so fast you have to keep taking the ride again to see what you missed.
I predict great things for The Mules, and I hope it works out with the sister. They have a full-lengther coming out this summer (2005) which is surely something to look forward to.
